Martin O'Brien & Co.
Martin O’Brien earned a BA in Spanish and Psychology from Hampden-Sydney College. Afterwards he decided that his real interest was in fine woodworking and has pursued this as his chosen profession. His expertise comes from several years as an apprentice, during which time he taught Spanish at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the evenings in order to support his learning the trade. He has also attended many seminars taught by recognized masters in the field and is a voracious reader of the old as well as latest texts on the subject. His dedication to furthering the craft can really only be attributed to a love of the work and a natural talent and patience that high end furniture making, design and conservation demands. His custom wooden objects are in private collections around the world and he conserves antiques for museums and private collectors. He lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with his wife, a Spanish Medievalist at Wake Forest University.
